Intended Audience
Individuals looking to improve their ability to motivate themselves and others in a changing work environment.

Course Overview
This course covers the theory of motivation and the approach to take to encourage self and others to be motivated contributors.

Objectives
As a result of taking this course, you will learn to:

  • Explain and apply motivation theory in the workplace
  • Distinguish when to use internal versus external motivators
  • Apply different forms of motivation as circumstances warrant
  • Understand how to better motivate self and others for increased productivity and satisfaction

  • Motivation Theory – Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

  • What motivates an individual

  • Use of honesty in motivation

  • External vs. internal motivation triggers – understanding individuals’ personality preferences and what can be motivational to different personalities

  • Use of incentives, rewards, and punishment

  • Situational motivation – motivating self to motivate others

  • Ways to foster motivation in others and teams

  • Issues regarding how to motivate during changing times such as mergers and acquisitions, downsizing, and expansion

  • Action planning to identify and plan for ways to better motivate self and others back on the job
