Enterprise COBOL Update I: Essentials

Recommended Duration:  2 days

Intended Audience
COBOL programmers who need to quickly get up to date with modern COBOL, including using intrinsic functions, what's available as Language Environment services (including dynamic storage management and an introduction to condition handling) and dynamic file allocation techniques.

Objectives
Students who complete this course will be able to use the major facilities of the latest COBOL compiler from IBM, in any of its releases (COBOL/370, COBOL for MVS & VM, COBOL for OS/390 & VM, or Enterprise COBOL for z/OS), creating code that is more efficient and interfaces better with programs written in other languages, with z/OS UNIX, and with newer applications features.  There are five standard and one optional hands-on exercises.

Prerequisites
At the very least, the student entering this course should have a strong programming background in COBOL.
